Text: Algebraic curves; an introduction to algebraic geometry, by William Fulton. There will be a copy of the book in reserve in the library

Course Description: The first part of the course will cover the basic notions of algebraic sets, affine varieties, projective varieties, morphisms, rational maps. The second part of the course will focus on lagebraic curves: definition, singularities, blow-ups, divisors and line bundles, the Riemann-Roch theorem.

Grading The final grade will be determined as follows:

Schedule:Monday-Wednesday 10:30AM-12:00 at Concordia University room LB 559-6.

The final exam. This is a pdf file. In this exam you may consider, if you wish, that the field k is an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero or that it is the field of complex numbers.
